I just traded my Voodoo modded JCM900 for an 87 Laney AOR pro tube 8 knob 100 watt head. The controls are not as responsive as I remember them being back in the day. Also I want to get the amp modded. What is the Laney mod like?

Let me preface this by saying - we have numerous Mods available for a great deal of amps/models and are in the process of updating our website daily.

Are add on controls possible?

Yes there are several Add-On Controls available for your amp.

Can it be switched to a 50 watt head (tranny, choke swap).?

Yes we can and there are a couple options available to you.

Cost effective option;
You can upgrade the output transformer (OT) and keep the choke as well as the power transformer (PT). The plate voltage will be a bit higher but we can off-set the difference for you with little cost to you.

Ideal option;
Mercury Magnetics Transformer upgrade. You can keep the stock choke or replace it. Aside from the higher cost the plate voltage will remain the same and the amp will sound as well as feel a great deal better over all. If we can install a PT that has switching taps (an additional $10 upgrade) this will give you options to adding a
crunch channel to the amp (IE: making it a 2-channel amp) a Solo-Boost feature, etc.

2-Channel Mods;
We can make the Laney AOR's into 2-channel amps (IE: crunch and lead channel) and make it footswitchable. The Crunch channel will have it's own Master Volume and Gain/preamp control and share the EQ with the Lead Channel.

It would probably be best to call the shop and as to speak with me directly. We can discuss what tones you like, what you like/dislike about the amp, your over all needs are and together we can determine what Modifications would best met your needs.
